Jane Sand received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota Law School with a concentration in Constitutional Law. After graduation, she commenced her legal career with Concerned Women for America where she participated in a number of legal cases that helped establish the Equal Access Doctrine. Locally, Ms. Sand acted as co-counsel for her own church in Fairfax County School Board v. Fairfax Covenant Church, in which the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit affirmed that the School Board violated the church’s freedom of speech and prohibited its free exercise of religion under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The School Board maintained a policy in which churches were charged a progressively escalating rental rate not applied to other groups. This change in the School Board’s policy enabled many churches across the county to hold their Sunday meetings in their local schools.
As a writer/researcher Ms. Sand worked for the Bureau of National Affairs in Washington D.C., writing a weekly trial publication, co-editing the Civil Trial Practice Deskbook, and covering the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms Sand left BNA, to assist in the establishment of the granting arm of The Alliance Defending Freedom, which helps finance pro-life, religious freedom, and pro-family cases. Taking a break from the law, Ms. Sand homeschooled her daughter to high school and now has returned to the legal realm.
Ms. Sand received her B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota-Duluth, graduating summa cum laude.
